The Medicine Cabinet Series: Katie
Registered Dietician from Fort Worth, TX
BINTO: What does your daily wellness routine look like?
Katie: I generally wake up and get in a quick workout- around 20 to 30 minutes. I prep my breakfast the night before, usually something like overnight oats or a green smoothie-something quick that travels well. I always make sure to fill up my giant water bottle because I’m so bad about remembering to drink water throughout the day. If I carry it with me, it’s a constant reminder.
For makeup, I don’t put on a ton of it. I’ve also been in the process of getting rid of some of the less clean items. Now I use Dew Skin by Beautycounter because it has sunscreen in it and does provide a little bit of coverage. If I’m looking for more coverage, they have a product called Tint Skin. I typically use Beautycounter moisturizer before I put on foundation, or I’ll use Acure. I really like their exfoliator. I tend to alternate between the two brands. I also have a lip balm by Beautycounter that I use every night before bed, and the lip balm I carry in my purse at all times is called Mongo Kiss by Eco Lips.
As for deodorant, for the longest time I would just wear Secret, then I was like, “Oh my gosh, why am I putting this on my body?” Then I tried a natural deodorant that gave my armpits a shadow which I wasn’t a fan of. I switched over to Little Seed Farm- they have an amazing deodorant that’s charcoal based and it smells incredible. It’s like a deodorant lotion that you put on-I’m obsessed with it, I literally just ordered another one today.
BINTO: What product can’t you live without?
Katie: I would say the Dew Skin, I love it! Because it has sunscreen built in, I don’t go a day where I don’t wear it. It’s so clean and light- it doesn’t feel heavy at. If I run out, my face feels so dull!
BINTO: Do you take BINTO? Do you stick to your routine?
Katie: Yes, I take them at night and I’m really big on sticking to a routine. I’m one of those people who wakes up at the same time, goes to bed at the same time… I’m very structured!
BINTO: What’s your favorite supplement in your pack?
Katie: Can I say all of them? They all work so well together! Before I started using BINTO, I would get my period around three times a year. It was super irregular. Within the past year, whenever I would get period I would have severe cramps. I never had cramps like that, so I was like, “What is going on?” That’s what really got me into looking at BINTO. Then, I got the product and started taking my pack, now my period is every 28 days and I don’t get severe cramps anymore. I don’t know specifically which supplement is helping, but I’m super happy with it (laughs). It’s been great, this is like, a miracle.
BINTO: Was there a defining moment when you realized you could take your health into your own hands?
Katie: So, I’m a registered dietician, but I originally went to school for fashion- the glitz and the glamour. Then I realized that was not me, and not what I wanted to do. Something I had always loved was health, nutrition, and overall wellness- until I got to college, I didn’t even know you could make a career out of that. I learned about dietetics and realized this was what I wanted to do. I went to school, finished my internship up in June, took the exam, and now I’m a newly registered dietician.
It was one of those things where there is so much we’re not aware of, even when it comes to makeup. I was so focused about what I was putting in my body, I didn’t even consider what I was putting on my body. The past few months I had this revelation I need to focus on both. Now I’m slowly replacing products that are not so clean so I can revamp my whole routine.
BINTO: What’s the biggest wellness mistake you used to make?
Katie: It definitely goes back to drinking water. I see so many beneficial changes when I’m regularly hydrating myself. I’m less tired, my face is not breaking out as much, I feel like I have so much more energy, it helps with digestion… I used to be like eh, water, I’ll just drink it all later in the evening to catch up. Then I realized how much better I felt drinking water throughout the day.
BINTO: Do you feel like there is something you’re still searching for in your wellness journey?
Katie: I think a wellness journey is something where you’re constantly learning new things. It’s not like one day you say, “I’ve got it 100% I don’t need to learn anything else.” Learn new things, try new things...try new supplements- you might feel better or less tired. I think my wellness journey is going to be continuous.
