Mackenzie Day lives in her hometown of South Jersey (not North Jersey, she clarifies!), and works in Philadelphia. By day, she works in recruitment for a pharmaceutical company. Outside of her nine-to-five, she works on her "other" job — which is her passion. She runs a fashion and lifestyle Instagram account where she shares outfits, inspiration, and health and skincare tips, all with her signature sense of humor.
BINTO: What's the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
Mackenzie Day: C O F F E E. Then talkie, then walkie (I essentially crawl to my coffee pot). Once I can start forming coherent sentences, I drink a mug of warm water with lemon and apple cider vinegar. Why on earth would I do such a thing, you ask? Well, because it helps with digestion, gives me energy, and makes me feel pretty dang healthy — I highly recommend.
BINTO: Tell us about your eating habits.
Currently, I am trying out the whole "keto" thing with my boyfriend, and I'm really liking it! We are big in to *healthy* fats like avocados and nuts, which are essentials in my current diet and are at the top of my healthy food list of faves. As far as challenges go, cutting back on sugars and carbs is seriously tough, but worth it. I've experienced less bloat, fewer breakouts, and a better mood as a result.
BINTO: How about your fitness routine? What workouts do you enjoy?
I love the gym! It's just getting me there that's the hard part. I love lifting, running, the stair climber, and anything HIIT related. The higher the intensity, the better. There's something about a good sweat sesh that makes my day feel so much more accomplished! Not to mention the added health bennys.
BINTO: What was the defining moment when you realized you could take your health into your own hands?
I had struggled with some areas of my physical health as well as mental health for years. I figured I would always have breakouts, or a "kind of" bad day, or never feel truly comfortable in my body — until I started doing research.
That's when I realized that what we put in our bodies makes a huge difference in what we can get out of them! I started eating cleaner (fewer sugars/carbs) which started to clear my skin up, taking vitamins like B12 to help with my energy levels and mood, and started trying to drink gallon of H20 a day which makes everything better (skin, mood, energy, body, the list goes on...). I realized it was up to ME and I was only going to see changes if I made a change. Your future trajectory is seen in daily routine.
BINTO: How has your wellness routine evolved over the years?
I never used to have a wellness routine. I mean in college I'd sleep in makeup, eat pizza for breakfast (ok, this still happens sometimes), not work out, and definitely not take vitamins. It was a mess and took a toll on my body.
As I'm nearing 30, I've developed what I am proud to call a pretty solid wellness routine. I have a full 7-to-10-step skincare routine, including monthly facials (which help with my mental health and relaxation), 4-5 workouts per week, a healthy but balanced diet, and have finally gotten in the habit of taking daily vitamins. This was the last thing I was able to incorporate, and I'm so glad I have.
BINTO: Do you use Binto? If so, what kind of changes have you experienced as a result?
Speaking of vitamins, it's thanks to Binto that I am in the habit of taking them! I filled out my health survey (breakouts and energy levels were a big concern for me!) and have my personalized pack that I take every morning (or night). I have seen noticeable results, especially energy throughout the day and regularity (thank you probiotics!) Getting these hormones in control has helped with my hormonal acne too! The packs include everything I need and nothing I don't.
BINTO: What other product can’t you live without?
My skincare routine and collagen powder for my coffee.
BINTO: What is your biggest challenge in terms of health or wellness right now?
Consistency. It is key for a successful...anything. I am trying to incorporate little things that help me maintain consistency — like putting my Binto packs right by my coffee pot in the A.M. so I remember to take them!
BINTO: How do YOU define wellness?
A healthy and happy state of mind. A positive outlook. A fresh opportunity every single day. Most importantly, treating yourself with the care and love that you deserve! Always be your #1 fan.
