The Medicine Cabinet Series: Kate, of Live Well With Kate

BINTO: Tell us a bit about your daily wellness routine.

Mornings are my favorite part of the day and my morning routine is what pulls me out of bed bright and early. I always start off by putting the kettle on the stove, so I can enjoy some hot tea while I get ready. I always choose an herbal (caffeine-free) tea, like hibiscus tea, to start my day off hydrated and mentally relaxed. Typically, I’m just sipping on it while I get ready or I set up my TRX and do a quick 20-minute workout with it by my side.

Next up, it’s time for me to make breakfast and my favorite matcha latte. One of the things I try to focus on throughout the day is getting in as many greens as possible. For breakfast I usually scramble up two pasture-raised eggs, lots of greens (at least 2 cups), and avocado or I’ll make a smoothie with tons of frozen greens. I love having frozen kale and spinach on hand to toss in and switching it up gives me a variety of nutrients! Then for lunch and dinner I will just always try to make sure greens are a large part of my plate.

After work I usually go for a workout, which gives me the extra energy boost I need to make dinner, but once dinner is done my nighttime routine starts. After I wash my face, I love using my quartz facial roller and my sports trigger ball to roll out the soles of my feet. They both feel amazing and leaving me with no trouble falling asleep!

BINTO: What product can’t you live without?

I would have to say my matcha powder. Each morning I blend 6 oz. hot water, 1 scoop collagen peptides, 1 teaspoon ceremonial grade matcha powder, and 2 oz. unsweetened vanilla almond milk. If I know I’m not going to be eating for a while I will also add in 1 teaspoon of MCT oil to help keep me full. I am a huge foodie, but when it comes to my morning routine I look forward to my herbal tea and matcha the most.

BINTO: How would you define wellness?

I define wellness as being happy in your own skin, while eating to nourish, exercising to strengthen, and taking the time to calm your mind.

BINTO: What was the defining moment when you realized you could take your health into your own hands?

I have been studying nutrition for over 10 years, but it wasn’t until about a few years ago where I felt I could dictate my own health and happiness. While in school I learned about how food affects your health and which foods are more detrimental or supportive of someone’s overall health. So early on as a dietitian that’s what I focused on with my clients and with my own health. It really wasn’t until I went to Italy, for my culinary program, where I learned that I didn’t have to always be “by the book;” that I could dictate my own health and discover what would provide me with a healthier and fuller life.

BINTO: Have you seen your wellness routine evolve over the years?

Completely! I used to always feel like I had to workout 6 days a week and eat a certain way at every meal and snack. Now I listen more to my body and what it’s telling me. If my body is screaming for a rest day, I rest. I am way more in tune with my body and it’s needs, which has made me happier and healthier.

BINTO: Do you feel like there is something you’re still searching for in your wellness journey?

I am still always searching to calm my mind more and be more present in the moment. I find it so challenging with a constantly growing to do list and the social demands of our era (i.e. Instagram). Some strategies I have found help are putting my phone in airplane more while I’m working or when spending quality time with family and friends, reading for pleasure, taking there deep breathes when I’m overwhelmed. I’m sure I will always be searching for things and fine tuning my wellness journey, but that’s why it’s called a journey and not a trip right?
